Western Marine Shipyard has delivered Bay Cleaner-2, an oily waste collection vessel built for Chittagong Port Authority. Designed to collect waste oil from ships calling at the port, she adds a dedicated environmental workhorse to Bangladesh’s busiest harbour.

A Vessel Built for Cleaner Ports

Every ship that calls at a port generates oily waste — from bilges, engine rooms and fuel systems. Without a safe way to collect it, that waste risks ending up in the water. Bay Cleaner-2 gives the port authority the capacity to receive it directly alongside, then carry it ashore for proper treatment.

Compact and manoeuvrable, the vessel is sized to work among berthed ships in the confined waters of the Karnaphuli channel.

Design and Classification

The vessel was designed by Foreship Ltd. of Helsinki, Finland, and built to Germanischer Lloyd class with the notation 100A5 RSA (50), + MC — the same international standards Western Marine applies to its export vessels.

Our in-house engineering team worked from the Foreship design through production drawings, fabrication and outfitting, with class surveyors overseeing each stage.

Built at the Karnaphuli Yard

Bay Cleaner-2 was built at our 42-acre shipyard on the eastern bank of the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram — a yard certified to ISO 9001 by GL and DNV, and to OHSAS 18000 and ISO 14000 by Bureau Veritas.
